The Hungarian police arrested an Irish national wanted for possession of child pornography. Daniel C fled Ireland in 2016, after police searched his home and found child pornography stored on his computer and devices. He lived in Budapest since, sustaining himself by giving English lessons, police.hu said.

The Irish police contacted the Hungarian police through the European Network of Fugitive Active Search Teams. The Hungarian police arrested Daniel C in cooperation with Budapest’s 6th district police unit, where he had rented an apartment. He is now awaiting the court’s decision on his extradition to Ireland.

The Metropolitan Court said that it had ordered the Irishman’s provisional arrest for surrender and simplified extradition back on December 12. As the decision became final, the suspect has to be extradited within ten days.

Should the Irish authorities fail to take him over by that deadline, his provisional arrest will end, the court said.
