Third Sunday of Advent – Gaudete Sunday

Culture Local News

The third week of Advent starts with the Gaudete Sunday on 15 December.

‘Gaudete’ means ‘rejoice’ and Gaudete Sunday signifies the nearness of the Lord’s coming, symbolizes joy and gladness.

“I think Gaudete Sunday reflects the wonderful humanity that these centuries of tradition express. Something so basic we can all relate to is that anticipation and not really wanting to wait anymore. So Gaudete Sunday is really a breakout moment where we experience the joy and getting excited that the birth of Christ is so near, but it’s just a moment. Then we go back to Advent.”

– Jonathan Wilson, pastor
