The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that the Hungarian state must pay compensation to five Iranian and four Afghan asylum-seekers who appealed to the court over bad conditions during their asylum proceedings in Hungary’s transit zone at Röszke.
The complainants applied for asylum to Hungarian authorities in the summer of 2017 after arriving in Hungary from Serbia, according to the judgement of the case, released by the Strasbourg court. In its judgement, the court said that conditions in the transit zone were insufficient with special regard to a pregnant woman and a child. Food supplies available for them were also insufficient, the court said. The court said that the Hungarian state had violated the right to free movement and to appropriate conditions set in the European human rights convention.
