Professor of University of Stanford, Francis Fukuyama follows the Hungarian transformation from the political changeover, 1989.
Fukuyama says that he finds distressing the process, the way in which Hungary turned from a communist regime into a democratic system. “As far as I am concerned, the way it has happened is bothering. To change a constitution cannot be a light-headed act; the constitution of a country has to reflect a strong consensus. To build such a consensus, an open process, long and thorough debates are needed”.
In reference to the European integration, Fukuyama said, “the European crisis is far from over, and as long as it lasts it causes more and more harms”.
