3rd Jazz Weekend in Debrecen

Dr. Ernő Kiss local jazz pianist founded the first jazz band of our city 40 years ago. He is also the creator and organizer of Jazz Days in Debrecen, which has become a tradition since then.Date: Friday (4th of May) 6:00 pm

Venue: MODEM Cultural and Conference Centre (1. Baltazár Dezső square)

Program: Organized by the Debrecen Jazz Club and the City Council of Debrecen, 3rd Jazz Weekend in Debrecen is going to take place in MODEM. The programs will start with a round table discussion at 6:00 pm with the former friends and fellow musicians of Ernő Kiss and after that there will be a concert on the stage performed by Budapest Ragtime Band and the Hernyák Quartet.

Budapest Ragtime Band, one of the most popular jazz bands in Hungary, was founded in 1980 by artists who had graduated at the Music Academy in Budapest. Main goal of the orchestra is to introduce, preserve and promote several traditional American genres, while preserving the traditions of ragtime music, too.

Members of the band: Ferenc Gayer band leader and bass player, Bálint Kiss trumpet, Ferenc Stein piano, Sándor Csárics trumpet, József Széki percussion, Tibor Antal vioin and János Weszely drums.

The Hernyák Quartet was found in 2017, but the members have known each other for a long time, they often played together in different formations. The repertoire of the band contains well-known jazz standards, shaped by the band’s own ideas  and carefully tuned to their jazz hits.

Members of the band: Kálmán Kapusi double bass, Géza Pataji drums, Gyula Sipos saxophone and Marcell Hernyák piano.

Tickets are 1000 HuF. They can be purchased in advance in MODEM.
